Winning Ways

The Plastek UK team has scooped up an armful of honours in recent national and regional awards

The glamorous Intercontinental Hotel on London’s Park Lane was the venue for this year’s Plastics Industry Awards in November. As the winners of multiple PIA awards in recent years, the team’s expectations were high – especially since we had been nominated in no less than 6 categories. In the end we were especially delighted to be outright winners in two of the most significant categories. Project Engineer Daniel Kelk won the ‘Unsung Hero’ award for his outstanding contribution to the successful integration of PCR into our existing production lines. This was matched by our success in the ‘Best Technology Application’ category, which similarly celebrated our in-house development of a system of digitally cataloguing product colour variations over several production runs and then applying these findings to make live modifications to the batch that is currently in production. This complex project in which many of our engineers, including of course Daniel, have been heavily involved, has been a crucial element of achieving high quality results using recycled resins.

More locally, but nonetheless importantly, Plastek UK was a finalist in multiple categories of the CHAD Business Awards which seek to highlight business excellence in the North Nottinghamshire area. “We were delighted and highly honoured,” said Plastek UK Vice President Mick Shaw, “to win both the Employer of the Year award – a wonderful tribute to the high standards of care and support the Plastek Group always been proud to offer to our colleagues – and the ultimate prize of ‘Business of the Year!”. Mick is more reluctant to mention that he was also personally selected by the judging panel of local business leaders as ‘Business Person of the Year’, an award which highlighted Mick’s strong leadership during the pandemic and in the company’s drive towards ever more environmentally-friendly and sustainable methods of manufacturing. Our warm congratulations to all involved!
